Urbana’s High School’s percussion program has a standing tradition of excellence.  The high point of excellence in the recent band program history has been the Award of 1st Place for the 2007 Percussion of the “Mighty Hawks” Marching Band at Atlantic Coast Championships (ACC’s). 

         In the first half of the fall semester the percussion performs as a part of the marching band.  After the season is over they prepare music for the winter concert in conjunction with the symphonic band.  Beginning this year they will be in a separate class (fall semester only) from the winds so they can rehearse and perform contemporary percussion ensemble pieces.  They will also perform as a separate ensemble on concerts.  In the spring semester the percussionists can choose to be a part of the concert band class to continue to work on their abilities as a well-rounded percussionist.
