Marching Band

Urbana’s award winning “Mighty Hawks” Marching Band has a tradition of excellence since its first season in 1995.  The band performs at all home football games and competes against bands from all over the Atlantic Coast. For the past 12 years, the band has been a finalist in the Atlantic Coast Championships, the “Super Bowl of Marching Bands,” in which only the top 25 bands across 7 states can attend. The band has also been regional Chapter Champions 4 years in a row (’02-’05).  It has also had the distinction of performing in the Governor’s inaugural parade and performing in the FedEX® Orange Bowl Half-Time show seen nationally on ABC. Three seasons ago the band was selected to participate in the Toyota Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. This January, they were chosen to perform at halftime of the 50th anniversary of the Liberty Bowl.

The official marching season starts the first 2 full weeks of August at band camp from 8am-8pm.  Every season features an exciting new theme/concept to be competitive among other high school bands across the region.   Saturdays starting in mid-September through mid-November are spent competing among many other high school marching bands to fight for right to attend USSBA National Champinoships.  After the marching season is over the band converts into a symphonic band that performs exciting standard to contemporary band literature.  The Symphonic Band performs at the annual Winter Concert in December and the annual feeder concert in January.
