Urbana High School Mighty Hawks Bands

2008 MULCH SALE

Saturday, April 12th

8:30 A.M.  to  4:00 P.M.

Once again, the Mighty Hawks Band Program will be selling Mulch to help the students earn money for their Personal Band Budgets (PBB).  This is one of the last major fundraisers for the year, typically raising over $6,000.  It is also one of the easiest to do – just put a flyer in your neighbor’s mailbox or on their door! 

As in years past, we will be selling 3 Cubic Foot Bags of High Quality Shredded Hardwood Bark Mulch for only $4.25 per bag*.   Orders of 20 bags or more can be delivered curbside for FREE to those living within the Urbana High school district.  This year we will hold to the 20 bag minimum.  If you have neighbors that want less than 20 bags, group the small orders together, have them delivered to your home, and then distribute from there.

We are asking that students distribute the flyers in February, and then again the week of March 10th (before Spring Break) to those who you have not received orders from (many people like to wait until the last minute to order, but have since lost the order form…) Orders are to be turned in to Mr. Trio - or band room door - by 28 March.  Payment must be received with the order.  The total amount of mulch ordered from the supplier will depend on the number of bags sold in advance. 

Students will earn money towards their personal band budget (PBB) for each bag of mulch they sell in advance ($.75/bag - remember to fill in the “BAND MEMBER” name on each order form you hand out to ensure credit!).  In addition, students and adult volunteers (working for a specific band member) can work the day of the mulch sale to earn additional PBB money.  Students must work a minimum of four hours to receive this credit.  In simple terms, the more bags you sell and the more hours you work the day of the event, the more personal band budget dollars you will earn.

Volunteers - adults and students - will assist with everything from loading mulch  to servicing customers.  Student volunteers can sign up in the Band Room and adults can call or e-mail Kathy Parker (request for volunteers will go out in mid-March). Volunteers can work either one or both shifts (8:00 to 12:00 and/or 12:00 to 4:00).

  Hi – I play in the Urbana High School Band.   We are holding our annual Mulch Sale to raise funds for the UHS band program and our Personal Band Budgets.  Each student is required to raise $500 to support the Band’s $42,000 a year budget (about $1,500 is provided by FCPS).  The funds will go towards the cost of music, instruments, transportation, competitions, instructors, and uniforms.
  This year’s mulch sale will be on Saturday, 12 April.  We are selling high quality shredded hardwood mulch in 3 cubic foot bags for $4.25/bag.  Did you know….

  1. Most retail stores sell mulch in 2 cubic foot bags -- our bags are 3 cubic foot
  2. Our mulch is competitively priced with nurseries and retail stores
  3. The average home needs 30 to 60 cubic feet of mulch
  4. We offer FREE curbside delivery (20 bags or more)!

All members of the band program are pitching in on Saturday, April 12th to sell mulch.  You can pre-order your mulch (see attached form) or stop by the High School on the 12th between 8:30am and 4pm.   Pre-orders are preferred as this is what we use to determine the total amount of mulch ordered for that day.
